The essence of meditation
I'm delighted to announce the release of my new book, Going with the Flow!
It's a practical guide to deep, transformative meditation practices, offered in modern, non-sectarian language and grounded in the modern science of consciousness. My hope is that it offers a way in for people who find the language of religion and spirituality challenging or off-putting. It's also my most personal book; since it's written entirely from my own standpoint, rather than in the language of any established tradition, it's perhaps the most revealing of my own interests (and biases!). The genesis of this book came from a shift in my own practice that occurred towards the end of the writing process for my previous one, In Buddha's Wake. Through a combination of my personal meditation practice, my studies within Buddhist traditions and my interest in the modern science and philosophy of consciousness, I found that the questions that had brought me to meditation practice in the first place finally had answers, and that my understanding of the practice and my relationship to it were reorganising themselves as a result. As such, Going with the Flow offers a grounded, practical take on meditation which reflects my current understanding of how and why meditation works, and what happens when we practice it. I hope you find it as interesting to read as it was to write! You can find out more about the book on the corresponding page on my website, but it's offered freely, so you've nothing to lose by downloading it and jumping in right now! If you'd prefer a print copy, that's also available via the Lulu store; there's a small cost for that, which covers the expenses of printing and shipping the book. Many thanks and best wishes, no matter form your practice takes!
